Nerg Plains and the Ambush

In almost every Mousehunt guide that I have ever seen and in the opinions of a number of hunters who are near and dear to me, the Ambush is a prerequisite to hunting in the Nerg Plains. However, for reasons unknown to me, I was unable to ever successfully craft this trap. I obtained the blueprints at 25% into grandmaster, and failed to craft. I then spent no less than 100 hunts (and catches) on Hapless mice in both the pinnacle chamber and the meditation room (about 65 in the pinnacle and 35 in the meditation room) and never saw another set of Ambush Blueprints. I even caught an Assassin mouse in the dojo, but still never saw a set of blueprints. Frustrated beyond measure, I decided to abandon the Ambush entirely and hunt with the Mutated Venus Mouse Trap in Nerg, and be frustrated beyond measure until I upgraded via the Thorned Vine to the Thorned Venus Mouse Trap and then Horrific Venus Mouse Trap.

However, after spending some time in the Nerg Plains, I was surprised to see how successful the MVMT is. Across my first 86 hunts in Nerg, I had an attraction rate of about 78%, and a catch rate of 51.16%. While struggling against stronger mice such as the Alnilam and Conjurer (which can be expected even of the Ambush), I had a large success rate with the weaker breeds of Nerg.

In conclusion, I have observed that the Ambush is a very convenient trap to obtain while working in Furoma, but that the trap itself isn't a game-changer like the ACRONYM is over the Obelisk of Slumber in the Catacombs. If you are able to obtain and craft the Ambush while in Furoma, that's great. Honestly, I wish I had one. However, it isn't worth spending great deals of time to find the blueprints if you can't find them conveniently or quickly-- in my opinion and observation, at least.
